It looks like owners of the older Samsung Galaxy S2 won't be completely left out of the loop, in the coming months. Samsung, well known for its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lineups, will apparently keep older flames alive through an Android 4.2.2 update.

Android 4.2.2 is the latest version of Android, and runs on Samsung's latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S4. Well known Samsung-centric website SamMobile recently quelled some Galaxy S2 fears on Twitter.

"And yes the Galaxy SII will get Android 4.2.2," SamMobile tweeted.

SamMobile has been reliable in the past, and while some of their Android release time frames have been wrong in the past, the website has a good knowledge of firmware stacked with some insiders - there's a pretty high chance SamMobile is right on this one.

There's no indication that the original Galaxy Note will receive Android 4.2.2, although if the Galaxy S2 is to receive it, then the Galaxy Note probably will too. Samsung has been known to treat the two handsets with similar regard, releasing their recent Android 4.1 updates around the same time.

When Android 4.2.2 does land on these older phones, it will likely bring features in from the newer phones. Just as Android 4.1 updates for the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note brought Galaxy Note 2 feature such as Multi-Window over, expect to see some of the Galaxy S4's tricks packaged in the updates. These features have already been spotted in a leaked Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 build. Both the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are expected to get Android 4.2.2 in the coming weeks.

As usual, if (remember the upgrade hasn't been officially confirmed) and when Android 4.2.2 hits Galaxy S2s, the rollout will be staggered, with some regions receiving their firmware before others. Carrier-tied Galaxy S2s will once again have to wait the longest.
