Apple has launched a new iPod, but potential customers should be aware of one major feature absent from the device: the 5-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera.
The updated iPod touch is a 16GB model for $229, a change from the standard 32GB and 64GB also available on Apple.com for $299 and $399, respectively.
The 16GB iPod touch does have notable changes compared to the 32GB and 64GB models aside from weighing two grams less. The most notable change in the 16GB model is the absence of the 5-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera. The only camera available on the 16GB iPod touch is the front-facing camera with 1.2 megapixels and FaceTime HD. The front-facing camera can still record HD video at 720p and up to 30 frames per second.
The 16GB iPod touch still has the same screen size of 4 inches with 1,136x640 pixels at 326 pixels per inch. Despite the absence of the rear-facing camera, it doesn't affect the battery power, which remains up to 40 hours for music and eight hours for video.
Unlike the 32GB and 64GB models, the 16GB iPod touch will follow the color options of the iPhone 5, only black and silver. The 32GB and 64GB iPod touch, however, are also available in blue, pink, red and yellow.
The 16GB is available now on Apple.com for $229 with free shipping and iPod engraving. If you want to pick up the 16GB model at the Apple Store, it is expected to hit shelves May 31.
Do you think Apple made the right call to remove the iSight rear-facing camera for the 16GB iPod touch?
