The Microsoft Surface tablets continue to rollout worldwide, and a special variant of the Surface with Windows 8 Pro is set to debut in Japan.
According to a report, the Surface with Windows 8 Pro will arrive in Japan on June 7 with the usual 128GB model and a new, never before seen, 256GB variant.
The 128GB model of the Surface with Windows 8 Pro will reportedly be priced at 99,800 Japanese yen, or $989 when converted to the U.S. dollar. The new 256GB model is priced at $1,187 under the U.S. dollar, or 119,800 yen in Japan.
For Japanese customers wanting to buy the Surface with Windows 8 Pro with the Touch Cover, an additional 80 yen, or $0.79 under the U.S. dollars, should be added for both 128GB and 256GB models.
The launch comes as Microsoft confirmed a massive rollout worldwide for over a dozen countries, such as, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom for the month of May. June will see the Surface with Windows 8 Pro launch for Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand.
The release in Japan should help Microsoft's Surface sales, both in Surface with Windows 8 Pro and Surface with Windows RT variants.
As Latinos Post reported, the International Data Corporation (IDC) noted Microsoft shipped 900,000 units of the Surface tablets. The unit figures equate to 1.8 percent of the first-quarter market share for 2013. The percentage represents both Surface with Windows RT and Surface with Windows 8 Pro tablets, however, IDC noted most of the shipments were of the latter.
