Mojang, the company behind the popular phenom Minecraft, has a new game entitled Scrolls that is set to enter open beta on June 3. Eurogamer has the game listed for a $20 price tag for the PC and Mac. Originally, the game was supposed to enter the open beta period in April. And when Latinos Post previously covered the game, Jakob Porser, Mojang co-founder and game designer, had this to say about Scrolls:

"We've been wanting to release it for a while because we want to have the same sort of development as Minecraft. We'll release it early at a discount. With the help from our community, we'll take the game to the next level and see what we want to do and what they expect out of the game and you can work around that."

Scrolls is a card battle game in which players create a deck of cards to battle against human and computer controlled enemies. The cards are played on a game board full of hexagons and players must take out special stone markers on their adversary's side of the board. The game has a variety of different creatures, spells and item cards that will allow for an exciting mix of strategy and the card battle genre. In an early preview of the game, Christian Dolan had positive things to say about Scrolls:

"Even in closed alpha, Scrolls is a wonderfully dependable kind of fun, of course: it's not afraid to plunder the classics for inspiration, but it's also a deep and yet strangely compact game...It benefits from a clear-eyed rule set and from the goodwill earned through Minecraft that Mojang's not going to unbalance the economy on a whim or nickle and dime you over new cards."

If Scrolls is able to match even a little bit of the success that Minecraft has had over the years, then it should be another solid game from the little studio that could, Mojang.
