It was just last week that Sony Xperia France tweeted out some tantalizing news for Xperia S owners: Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean was rolling out. Sadly, it seems the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.
Sony Xperia Germany recently took to Twitter to explain that the update is still not available - to anyone.
@aaron3run The announcement of our french colleagues was a mistake. The Upgrade is not available yet. Sorry for that! [CS]

Red flags were raised over the weekend as news of the Sony Xperia France tweet made its way around the web, yet nobody seemed to have received Jelly Bean on their Xperia S. Now, it seems that Xperia S owners will just have to sit tight for a little longer and wait for some official confirmation - preferably through non-social media channels. Given the enthusiasm of the French Xperia team, however, the software could be near completion.
For those interested, here's what the upgrade will bring when it finally does roll out: Project Butter will dramatically improve interface fluidity and system performance by boosting frame rates and allocating resources more efficiently, and Google Now will give Xperia S owners access to a personal assistant that strives to display necessary information before the user even asks for it. The upgrade will also feature security tweaks, and changes to notifications among other Android staples.
Android Jelly Bean is the latest version of Android, although a higher increment, Android 4.2.2, does already exist. Android 4.2.2, however, can only be found on the latest smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, or on devices running stock Google Android, like the LG Nexus 4.
Is the fragmented nature of Android software updates enough to make you switch over to another mobile operating system, such as IOS? Or would you rather simply pick up a stock Google device so that the upgrade comes straight from Google? Let us know in the comments below.
