After months of speculation and delays, Sony Xperia S owners around the world are finally receiving their Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update.

Sony Xperia France took to Twitter to announce that the update has begun rolling out.

The tweet, "Xperia S: le déploiement de la 4.1.2 vient de débuter pour les 1ers builds FR," roughly translates to, "Xperia S: the deployment of 4.1.2 has just begun for the 1st builds FR," with FR referring to France.

At the time of this article, the Xperia S Jelly Bean update has not been confirmed in other countries, although given the staggering nature of Android update releases, it shouldn't be long before Jelly Bean makes its away around the globe.

Android 4.1.2 will bump Xperia S owners up from Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Jelly Bean comes with Project Butter, a series of system optimizations that improves frame rates and performance for a more fluid interface. The update will also introduce Google Now, Google's personal assistant that will display a series of informational cards before you even ask for them.

The current latest version of Android is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but that can only be found on the newest smartphones, such as the Galaxy S4, or on stock Google handsets, like the Nexus 4.

The Sony Xperia S comes equipped with a 4.3-inch 1280X720 display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and 1GB of RAM. The handset's internal memory storage capacity lies at 32GB with no option to expand the memory. The rear-facing shooter is capable of 12.1-megapixel stills while the front-facing camera tallies in at 1.3 megapixels. The smartphone also comes with an HDMI port and runs on HSPA and GSM networks, which means it works on AT&T and T-Mobile, but not on Verizon or Sprint in the United States.
