Fans of the first-person Parkour-inspired platformer Mirror's Edge may have hope for a sequel to the game, which first was released in 2008. NeoGAF is reporting that the German version of the game is listed on Amazon.com as Mirror's Edge 2 for Xbox 360, however, the listing no longer exists.
A sequel to Mirror's Edge has long been rumored. After the release of the first game, EA claimed that a sequel was being created by a small team at DICE. But production stalled after sales of the first game were lower than expected, despite stellar critic reviews and a dedicated fan base. Recently, DICE threw in some Mirror's Edge Easter eggs into Battlefield 3 DLC, with the series protagonist Faith's running shoes seen in a level, along with audio of the character's breathing while running.
A spokesman for EA had this to say to Gamespot concerning the news:
"We appreciate fan enthusiasm for Mirror's Edge, especially fans throughout the retail channel. This is not official EA material. We have nothing to announce at this time."
Mirror's Edge has since gone on to become one of the most beloved cult classic games for the past generation of consoles. With it's fast paced gameplay and first-person perspective, it certainly gave player's a unique experience as they ran through a dystopian city in order to fight the corruption around them. Also making the game memorable was the game's artwork, which had players looking for brightly colored objects to run, jump and slide across, in contrast to the bleached white environment in which they inhabited.
What is mildly surprising is that, if Mirror's Edge 2 is indeed coming out, the game will have a physical release on the Xbox 360. Mirror's Edge could benefit from an episodic format such as The Walking Dead, where players can download one episode at a time. In addition, Mirror's Edge 2 would be a good title to show off the power of the Xbox One when it is eventually released.
