Samsung's latest wonderchild, the Galaxy S4 is officially now available for purchase through Verizon Wireless.

Interested buyers will be able to find the handset at Verizon retail stores, although given supply issues and the popularity of the smartphone, the Galaxy S4 might be a tough phone to land for some. Verizon prices the 16GB Galaxy S4 at $199.99 with a two-year contract, but that price includes a $50 mail-in rebate, meaning the upfront cost will be $249.99. Memory can be expanded by another 64GB through a microSD card.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 sports a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. While some models around the world are shipping with the 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, Verizon is offering the 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 variant. The smartphone runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and supports LTE, NFC, and Verizon lists the 2,600mAh battery has having a usage time of up to 17 hours and a standby time of up to 12 days. Verizon only offers the Galaxy S4 in black or white.

Reviews of the Galaxy S4 have been generally positive, and the handset is making an impressive sales run. Still, the plastic body and Samsung's new gesture-based software have both been criticized. As with all smartphone purchases, it's best to get your hands on one before making a decision.

The Verizon release means that all major carriers, including AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, in the United States have finally launched their respective Galaxy S4 variants. Initial sales were hampered by supply issues, and the smartphone is still hard to find in many retail stores around the nation, but it looks like Samsung has began straightening out the kinks.

Will you be picking up the Samsung Galaxy S4 on Verizon?
