Microsoft has updated its YouTube app for the Windows Phone platform.

Following an "immediately withdraw" request by Google, Microsoft has disabled the download videos option from its Windows Phone YouTube app.

The update comes as a May 8 YouTube update allowed Windows Phone customers to download YouTube videos and see content without advertisements. Microsoft's update, at the time, did not stir well with Google, prompting a two-page letter from YouTube's Director of Global Platform Partnerships Francisco Varela to Windows Phone Apps and Store's General Manager Todd Brix.

"Unfortunately, by blocking advertising and allowing downloads of videos, your application cuts off a valuable ongoing revenue source for creators, and causes harm to the thriving content ecosystem on YouTube," wrote Varela on the letter dating May 15.

But despite the latest YouTube update, Microsoft is not clear from Google's concerns because advertisements are still not viewable to the Windows Phone customers.

In a statement via ZDNet, a Microsoft spokesperson said, "Microsoft updated the Windows Phone YouTube app to address the restricted video and offline video access concerns voiced by Google last week. We have been in contact with Google and continue to believe that our two companies can work together to hone an app that benefits our mutual customers, partners and content providers."

The Microsoft spokesperson added that they are looking forward to working with Google and its YouTube experience "for the growing number of people who rely on both of our respective products."

A comment from Google was not immediately available.
