Inventory of the 13-inch MacBook Air is reportedly drying up, just in time for Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
According to Apple Insider, resellers Amazon, B&H, MacConnection, and MacMall are currently out of stock of the 1.8GHz with 256GB 13-inch MacBook Air while J&R is notifying customers that the Apple laptop can only be purchased at their retail stores.
So far, Best Buy is the only reseller to have enough stock of the 13-inch MacBook Air.
News of a device running low on stock usually signals strong demand or a corporate strategy to clear shelves for upcoming items.
What could be the new hardware?
With the WWDC starting in less than a month, Apple could announce a new MacBook Air.
Last month, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has projected an announcement on the MacBook Air at the 2013 WWDC. According to Kuo, the next series of the MacBook Air may feature Intel's upcoming Haswell processors.
What is expected at the 2013 WWDC is an update on the iOS and Mac OS X platforms.
The 2013 WWDC is set for June 10-14 in San Francisco, Calif., and while tickets for the conference are sold out, Apple may provide coverage online.
"We look forward to gathering at WWDC 2013 with the incredible community of iOS and OS X developers," said Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller last month.
According to Apple, over 1,000 Apple engineers will present more than 100 technical sessions ranging from developing, deploying, and integrating technologies utilized by the Cupertino-based company.
