HTC is planning to double production of its popular flagship phone, the HTC One, a development that could indicate a possible deal with Verizon to finally carry the phone.

"Taiwan's HTC Corp. said Thursday that its production capacity for its new HTC One flagship phone is rising sharply month by month as its component supply issues continue to improve. Jack Tong, president of HTC North Asia, said the company's production capacity for its newest smartphone, a 4.7-inch model that was unveiled Feb. 19, will double in May from the previous month and will rise further in June in order to meet strong demand," writes Focus Taiwan.

HTC's profits were down sharply in the first quarter of the year due to delays in the worldwide release of the HTC One amid component shortages. Many consumers have voiced disappointment at the dearth of devices available, and some have turned to other manufacturers rather than wait.

That could be one of the reasons Verizon and HTC have not yet struck a deal. Verizon is the only major American carrier that does not offer the HTC One. Previously, HTC tweeted that no deal would be forthcoming, but that tweet was quietly deleted soon after. Neither company has confirmed or denied a deal for the future.

But a doubling in supply would mean HTC will have enough inventory to stock Verizon stores, a move that could go a long way toward offsetting losses earlier in the year.

The HTC One features a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 1920x1080 pixel widescreen Super LCD 3 display, a 2300 mAh Li-Po battery, a 4-megapixel "Ultrapixel" camera with enhanced low-light sensitivity with 1080p HD video, up to 64GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.1.2.
