Sales of the Samsung Galaxy S4 will hit 10 million units by next week, according to a Samsung exec, making it the fastest selling smartphone in the company's history.
"We are confident that we will pass more than 10 million sales of the S4 next week. It is selling much faster than the previous model S3. Samsung spent 50 days to pass the 10 million sales mark for the S3. The S4 will be Samsung's first '10 million seller' device less than a month after its official debut," said co-CEO Shin Jong-kyun at an industry forum on Thursday.
The Galaxy S4 was released in Korea Apr. 26, with the American debut following over the next few days. Supplies were limited at first due to unexpected RAM shortages, but Samsung ramped up production and the phone is now available on demand.
Some of you may remember Samsung said 70 percent of its first 10 million units would use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor while Samsung began mass production of its in-house Exynos 5 Octa processor. No word on whether a switch to the faster Exynos is in the works for future handsets, but the brisk selling pace of the Galaxy S4 could mean plenty more Snapdragon variants for the time being.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
