New rumors say the Verizon HTC One could still be on its way, perhaps due for an unveiling at a Verizon event May 22.
"LTE/CDMA2000/W-CDMA/GSM terminal of HTC-made 'PN073XXXX' has passed Wi-Fi certification in May 13, 2013," writes Japanese site Blog of Mobile. "Code name corresponds to M7_WLV. Manufacturer's part number is a pattern that is PN07310. It is expected to be HTC One that invests in for Verizon Wireless in the United States."
So the model numbers make it look like this could be the long-awaited HTC One. Previously, HTC tweeted that the One wouldn't be coming to Verizon, but that tweet was quietly deleted later without explanation.
Neither Verizon nor HTC have confirmed or denied the possibility of the One appearing eventually on Big Red, so hopes are still high among loyalists at both companies.
Recent rumors about a Droid DNA 2 diminished some of those hopes, but those rumors have yet to be confirmed, making them about as reliable as today's information.
Verizon recently announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available May 23, so it would be strange foe the company to release the One only a day before, but perhaps this is part of a two-pronged strategy aimed at covering all the bases by offering the two best Android phones on the market at the same time. We'll find out next week, unless Verizon has any more surprises in store before then.
The HTC One features a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 1920x1080 pixel widescreen Super LCD 3 display, a 2300 mAh Li-Po battery, a 4-megapixel "Ultrapixel" camera with enhanced low-light sensitivity with 1080p HD video, up to 64GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.1.2.
