It's a busy time for Google as it's hosting the I/O developers conference and to highlight its track record, the search engine giant has forecasted a milestone for its mobile platform.

According to Google, it expects its Android mobile operating system to reach 900 million total activations this year, which is more than double the number activated in 2012. To show how much Android activations have grown, there were only 100 million in 2011.

Google's Android and Chrome Operations Head Sundar Pichai stated the strong number of activations "has been breathtaking."

Meanwhile, Google Vice President of Product Management Hugo Barra stated its app store, Google Play, has just past 48 billion app installations. Barra noted 2.5 billion downloads were made in the last month alone.

To further show the power of the Android, Strategy Analytics reported that Samsung has benefited the most from the Google mobile platform.

According to the first quarter of 2013, Samsung made a cool $5.1 billion in profits from the global Android smartphone profit share. The share equated to an outstanding 94.7 percent, easily trouncing other competitors who utilize Android as well. LG Electronics finished second, but only with $0.1 billion, or 2.5 percent of the profit share.

"We believe Samsung generates more revenue and profit from the Android platform than Google does," said Strategy Analytics Executive Director Neil Mawston. "Samsung has strong market power, and it may use this position to influence the future direction of the Android ecosystem. For example, Samsung could request first or exclusive updates of new software from Android before rival hardware vendors."
