Apple's App Store has hit a milestone every tech company would be envious of.
The Cupertino-based company has announced it has reached 50 billion app downloads. The downloads had to be made in their App Store.
Apple made the announcement on Twitter shortly before 5 p.m. EST.
"We just hit 50 billion app downloads. Thank you. It couldn't have happened without you," read the App Store account.
Ahead of reaching the milestone, Apple announced it will offer a $10,000 App Store gift card to the 50 billionth downloader. In addition, the first 50 people after the 50 billion download mark will be notified that they will receive a $500 gift card. In total, Apple will be giving out $35,000 worth of goods.
Apple will name the winners within approximately 10 days of today's milestone. The winners are expected to have their names, photograph, likeness, voice, prize information, and biographical information posted publicly.
The landmark comes about 14 months after Apple hit 25 billion app downloads in March 2012. The lucky 25 billionth downloader was customer Chunli Fu from Qingdao, China. Fu was given a $10,000 app store gift card as well.
