The initial sales of the Galaxy S4 have proven to be successful for Samsung.
According to Korea's The Chosunilbo, a Samsung executive stated that the Galaxy S4 supplied four million units worldwide as of the end of April.
In comparison to the previous three generations of the Galaxy S smartphones, it took 85 days for the Galaxy S1 to ship three million units, 55 days for the Galaxy S2, and 21 days for the Galaxy S3.
"As of Friday, we have sold more than 6 million units, and we predict that we could break the 10-million mark by as early as the end of this month," the Samsung executive stated, via Chosun Media.
The numbers of Galaxy S4 units sold may prove that it may be a comparable opponent to Apple's iPhone 5. The fifth-generation Apple smartphone, which launched in September 2012, sold over five million units in its first weekend.
"While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement last September.
Samsung, however, has not disclosed official sales figures yet, but if the alleged Samsung executive's statement is true, it may be an figure the South Korean-based organization can proudly flaunt about.
The Galaxy S4's price is near or the same as the iPhone 5 when it launched last year. Sprint, T-Mobile has the Galaxy S4 at $149.99 while AT&T and Verizon Wireless has the Samsung smartphone at $199.99, the same as the iPhone 5. The Galaxy S4 is available across more carriers than the iPhone 5 was at the time of its launch.
