2K Sports have announced that the first WWE game to be produced by the company since the rights to the WWE video game license were bought from the bankrupt THQ will be WWE 2K14, and will be appearing on October 29 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The popular yearly wrestling title will be developed by Yuke's, who have developed previous games in the series, as well as Visual Concepts, who work on the NBA video games. Take-Two, the parent company of 2K, announced the news through the company's year end fiscal report.

While not much is known at this point about the game, WWE video games follow a yearly release schedule like other sports games, so fans can expect an updated roster for the game, as well as legendary wrestlers of the past. Career mode, create-a-wrestler, and other popular game modes from years past should make an appearance as well.  The Rock has been confirmed as being on the cover of the game, so the actor/wrestler will most likely be in the game.

As part of the new agreement between the WWE and Take-Two, THQ will pay $650,000 in royalty payments for games sold to the WWE while under bankruptcy protection. While previous deals with the WWE and Yuke's were nullified after THQ dissolved, both companies were able to secure new deals with Take-Two. This will ensure a smooth transition between the old games and the new, and it does not mean that a potential dip in quality will occur with a new developer creating the game.

While some may be disappointed that the next WWE wrestling game will not be heading to next-gen platforms, considering the fact that there is no set release date for either the PlayStation 4 or next-gen Xbox, it may have been too late in development for the game to jump into the next gen, especially with THQ going bankrupt.
