Samsung's latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, is currently rolling out to consumers around the world. While the original already comes in more than one variant, Samsung is widely expected to release a Galaxy S4 Mini as well, and it could launch as soon as July.
According to well-known Samsung-centric website SamMobile, Samsung has plans to release the Galaxy S4 Mini during week 29 of 2013. A quick look at the calendar shows that this means a time frame starting July 15.
Samsung has not confirmed the date, and SamMobile warns that this date will vary between countries. The information is attributed to anonymous insiders, who claim that these are simply official target dates for Samsung.
Not much is known about the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, except that if it follows the trend set by the Galaxy S3 Mini last year, then it should be a fairly mid-ranged handset set to mimic the Galaxy S4 in looks and feel, but not in technical firepower. The Galaxy S3 Mini was never released here in the United States partly due to the ongoing legal dispute between Apple and Samsung. GottaBeMobile reports there is a rumor floating around that the Galaxy S4 Mini could, however, launch through AT&T.
Rumor has it the device will ship with a 4.3-inch display, an Exynos dual or quad-core chipset, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and Android 4.2. The Galaxy S4 Mini is also speculated to have many of the new gesture and interface features the Galaxy S4 is touted as having, although whether the smaller cousin will receive the full package is still up in the air.
Samsung is also reportedly planning on releasing other variants of the Galaxy S4, including a rugged Galaxy S4 Active and the camera-oriented Galaxy S4 Zoom.
