Nokia Lumia 928 Release Date: May 16 Confirmed for Verizon Wireless Customers [Video]

Verizon has announced the Nokia Lumia 928.

The new Windows Phone 8 smartphone has long been rumored since earlier this year and speculated to make its launch on May 14 at a confirmed Lumia event in London. Instead, Verizon Wireless revealed the new Lumia smartphone online.

The Lumia 928, as expected, will be exclusive under Verizon and will sport a 4.5-inch PureView display with an 8.7-megapixel rear-facing camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The new Lumia smartphone, which appears to have "Global Ready" as its tagline, will have wireless charging capabilities.

The smartphone will hit stores May 16 for $99.99 after a mail-in-rebate of $50 on top of signing a two-year contract.

It does appear, based on Verizon's statement, the Lumia 928's promotion will heavily focus on its camera capabilities. In addition to the Carl Zeiss optics, the smartphone has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), which creates blur-free pictures and video particularly in low-light conditions, Smart Shoot, Cinemagraph, and Panorama. The camera can also record in 1080p HD with high audio amplitude microphones for distortion-free sound.

Additional features in the Lumia 928 include 1,280x768 pixels with 334 pixels per inch for the display, a 1.5GHz dual core processor, and 1GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage. When it comes to battery life, the Lumia 928 houses a 2,000mAh pack.
