Watch Dogs' creators has made it so that the game's story can be interpreted multiple ways, comparing it to a painting that can be taken in differently by everyone who sees it. The creative director for the game, Jonathan Morin, in a press event reported on by Digital Spy described the game as thus:

"A lot of people ask about Watch Dogs and how it's been created compared to the open world structure and how we deal with that... The answer's quite simple; we like to compare Watch Dogs' story to a painting. A painting is a static creation, but it's also interactive because it's been made to be open to interpretation. The creator knows exactly what he wanted to convey but he hides it voluntary from the audience so they can learn something from it, like looking at their own self."

Part of the way that Watch Dogs will achieve this openness is by allowing players to see the effects of Aiden Pearce, the game's main character, as he quests to keep his family safe and get vengeance on his enemies. Players will get a chance to help others over the course of the game, affecting his reputation and how the NPC's and media sees him.

"You're going to get the power lost into those other stories and really change yourself based on how you play, feel the repercussions, and look at the story of Aiden Pearce maybe slightly differently, or in a personal way."

Morin explained that the game will allow players to use any play style that they want, and the game will adjust to reflect Aiden's use of potentially immoral behavior caused by the player.

"[We decided] let's make sure they feel like there's consequences that are logical in there, without being judgmental, so it doesn't feel like a deduction of perception, or a reduction of intelligence, if you want... That way, [if] you're a terrible loose cannon crazy guy, who constantly wants to go in the violent way of doing things... If you're that kind of player, we're going to make you feel like Aiden Pearce can be that player, without making a soulless character."

A recent Playstation blog post touches on one of the more secretive aspects of the game: multiplayer.

"Watch_Dogs will feature a full-blown multiplayer mode set in the mean streets of Chicago, though final details are still under lock and key," the site asserts. "More intriguing is that multiplayer and single-player will "seamlessly" overlap, an effort by Ubisoft to demolish the wall that has divided single-player gaming and multiplayer for decades."

Watch Dogs will be available on the PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U November 22.
