Tech speculation about Google's next-gen lineup has reached a fever pitch before the search engine giant kicks off its annual Google I/O conference. Among the most-anticipated devices is the next Nexus smartphone, dubbed the "Nexus 5." Ahead of its announcement, it looks like an image of the Nexus 5 could have leaked.

The image posted above is allegedly of an unspecified LG smartphone - possibly the Nexus 5 - courtesy of well-known smartphone leaker @evleaks. The poster, despite a solid track record, has been wrong in the past, so remember to take leak with a healthy dose of salt. LG hasn't commented on the matter, nor has the company divulged any public confirmation that it will be producing Google's next Nexus handset. Remember that the Google phone before the Nexus 4, the Galaxy Nexus, was a Samsung product and that LG is gearing up to to release the Optimus G2, which could also be the smartphone pictured above.

There are, however, strong indications that LG and Google will continue their partnership. Following an incredibly successful (even if it was marred by some supply shortages) run with the Nexus 4, LG and Google are said to be keen on fostering their relationship.

A Korea Times report states that Google's Larry Page and LG's Koo Bon-joon discussed future collaborations, including televisions and the next Nexus handset. It hasn't been validated that the handset is the Nexus 5, and indeed there are rumors that the next Nexus smartphone will simply be an advanced variant of the popular Nexus 4. The new Nexus 4 is said to come with 32GB of internal storage (as of now, the Nexus 4 is only available in 8GB and 16GB models) and LTE support. Verizon (a.k.a CDMA) is also said to support the LTE model.

What do you think - will Google opt for a Nexus 5 debut at Google I/O? Or will an advanced Nexus 4 model make its appearance first?
