Many gamers are looking forward to the release of the Ouya, the little console that could (with the help of millions raised by Kickstarter). Well now backers and fans will have to wait a little bit longer to get the new home console, as the Ouya has been delayed by several weeks to June 25. Julie Uhrman, Ouya CEO has told Joystiq that the delayed has been caused by larger than expected demand for the console, which runs on Android and will cost $99.
"We've had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by a couple of weeks - three weeks - which will allow us to create more units and, basically, have more units on store shelves in June."
This is undoubtedly good news for the console, despite the delay, because it means that the console could very well care out a sizeable niche in the current console landscape. The system is almost a response against the current style of consoles, with it's low price, high customizability, and smaller game on the Ouya virtual marketplace, instead of high budget games on high budget systems.
Uhrman also revealed that the biggest complaint from backers of the Ouya, sticky buttons caused by buttons getting stuck under the faceplate of the controller, has been fixed.
"I don't know what the exact millimeter is, but we've increased the size just a little bit, so now the buttons don't stick under it. We made that change very early so all the units are being produced with those larger button holes."
The Ouya has attracted attention from a wide variety of gamers, and has gotten some big names in the industry to pledge their support for the console. It sounds like Ouya has a bright future ahead, and should make an impact when released on June 25.
