Real time strategy fans have something to look forward to in September, as SEGA has announced that Total War: Rome 2 will be available for purchase both on disk and digitally on September 3. IGN reports that pre-orders are now available for the sequel, which returns to the series' most famous setting, the Roman empire. Players will be able to control several different factions from all over ancient Europe.

The pre-order bonuse includes the Greek States Culture DLC, which adds three additional playable factions: Sparta, Epirus, and Athens. In addition, the Pontus faction will be available as day-one DLC for the game as well.

Creative Assembly, the developer of the game, will also make available a Collector's Edition of the game, though only 22,000 units will be made available. This package comes with many extras, including a functional miniature catapult. Also included is a Tabula set, which is an Roman game similar to backgammon. Three Tesserae dice, a canvas map, the Total War: Punic Wars card game, and, oh course, and individually numbered copy of Total War: Rome 2 will come with the package. This Collectors Edition is loaded with extras.

This is not the only Total War game set to come out this year. At the Game Developers Conference, Creative Assembly also announced that they were creating a MOBA game based of the series. That game will be free-to-play, but currently has no release date scheduled.

Total War: Rome 2 seeks to bring the franchise back to it's roots, and should be a must-buy for any real time strategy fans. The game will be out on PC on September 3.
