A Microsoft executive has provided an update regarding the rumored Windows Blue operating system.
Microsoft's Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller participated in a question and answer session with a Windows blog.
According to Reller, she confirms Windows Blue will be available later this year. The "Windows Blue" name is currently the codename for the update with the aim to continue the "bold vision" in its PCs and tablets set by Windows 8.
"[Windows Blue] will deliver the latest new innovations across an increasingly broad array of form factors of all sizes, display, battery life and performance, while creating new opportunities for our ecosystem," Reller noted. "It will provide more options for businesses, and give consumers more options for work and play."
Reller added that the Windows Blue update will also provide an opportunity for Microsoft to respond to the customer feedback they received following the launch of Windows 8 and Windows RT platforms.
The Reller session comes as Microsoft topped 100 million sold licenses for Windows 8, in both PC and tablet units and upgrades. The figure is an additional 40 million from the 60 million Microsoft confirmed in January.
"We've also seen the number of certified devices for Windows 8 and Window RT grow to 2,400 devices, and we're seeing more and more touch devices in the mix," Reller Stated.
