Fans of Mecha Hitler, rejoice. Bethesda has announced that the Wolfenstein series will be returning with Wolfenstein: The New Order in the fourth quarter of 2013 on current and next-gen systems.
The game follows an alternate timeline where Nazi Germany won the Second World War and now dominate the Earth "and beyond." The player takes the role of American B.J Blazkowicz in 1960, and must fight a one-man war against the Nazis. Blazkowicz must fight through hordes of Nazis to take control of the super weapons that have helped them to dominate the world.
The game is being developed by Machinegames, which is owned by Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda. The studio was founded by the creators of Starbreeze Studios, the company behind the cult classic Chronicles of Riddick games. The last game in the series was 2009's Wolfenstein, which was developed and published by different companies than Machinegames and Bethesda. That game was developed by Raven Software and published by Activision.
While the exact release date is unknown, the game will most likely launch around the holidays, when the next-gen systems become available. Bethesda did not announce the game will be available at the same time on different platforms, so a delayed release for next-gen versions may occur.
