The release date of the second-generation iPad mini has analysts rechecking their projections, and one is now saying a third-quarter debut is likely.
According to NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim, via CNET, he initially stated two "refreshes" were coming. Of the two, one would debut in the first half of 2013 while the second would launch in the first quarter of 2014.
"The Q1 [of 2014] device will have a Retina display plus an updated processor," said Shim, signifying that the variant coming in this year would not feature Retina Display.
However, in an update, NPD DisplaySearch now states the iPad mini that will launch this year will have Retina Display with a third-quarter release date.
The latest forecast comes as KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo stated the iPad mini 2 will face challenges due to the inclusion of Retina Display. According to Kuo, the display panels may prove to be a challenge for manufacturer, thus, leading to delay shipments.
Kuo stated the second-generation 7.9-inch iPad mini could also see a release date during the third quarter. The third quarter of 2013 appears to be a busy season for the Cupertino-based organization as KGI Securities forecasts the iPhone 5S, iPad 5, modified iPod touch 5, and new iPod nano will make their respective debuts during that time as well.
