While it may not have the greatest numbers on the mobile operating system share, Microsoft is easily dominating the desktop browser share.

According to NetMarketShare, Microsoft's Internet Explorer accounted for 55.81 percent of the April 2013 market share. The figure is 35.51 percent ahead of the next competing operating system.

In second place is Mozilla Firefox, which captured 20.3 percent of the share.

Google Chrome was not far behind, rounding the top three with 16.35 percent.

Apple, while sitting pretty in the mobile operating system market, failed to hit double digits, accounting for 5.38 percent.

Vs. March 2013

In comparison to March's market share, movements were made but very minimal.

Internet Explorer's April figures were 0.02 percent lower compared to March, while Firefox saw a slight increase of 0.09 percent.

Chrome maintained its third place position but with a 0.10 percent drop, while Apple's Safari increased 0.07 percent.

Desktop Browser Versions

When breaking down the April 2013 browser versions, Internet Explorer 8 accounted for 23.08 percent, making it the most used desktop browser. The second most used desktop browser goes to Microsoft again with Internet Explorer 9 with 18.17 percent.

Google Chrome 26.0 actually jumps to third place with 13.22 percent ahead of Firefox 20's 9.57 percent. Finishing the top five is Microsoft with Internet Explorer 6, which accounted for 6.22 percent.
