PopCap's lighthearted zombie phenomenon is getting a sequel. Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time has officially been set for a July release date.
A new teaser has been released to promote the title, and although it doesn't feature any gameplay, it does have its share of Internet personalities as well as an appearance by Major Nelson himself. The teaser asks the question, where the heck is the Plants vs Zombies sequel?
No platforms have officially been confirmed at this time, although we can assume that it will be headed to a number of them. The previous installment eventually made its way to the PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Nintendo DS and DSiWare, Bada, BlackBerry, Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and the PlayStation Vita.
The sequel was previously announced in August. The original was first released in 2009, and has since become one of the company's biggest hits, including becoming the top grossing iPhone launch to date. It has since made cameo appearances in everything from World of Warcraft to Magic: The Gathering to HBO's True Blood.
The PopCap team is also currently working on a Plants vs Zombies spin-off game for Facebook. The game is titled Plants vs Zombies Adventures, and will be a tower defense/town building hybrid. It is officially being described as:
"Plants vs. Zombies is taking root on Facebook. PvZ Adventures is expanding the world of Plants vs. Zombies with endless waves of new characters, strategies, territories, and community challenges. Coming early this summer!"
The game will feature a more traditional tower defense layout, with zombies walking paths that twist and turn. It will also feature new plants such as the Beet, and will include a town building portion of the gameplay where players farm resources for power-ups. This will be where PopCap implements its social and monetization features.
