It's no secret that the Wii U game drought has stretched out longer than anyone could have expected, but Nintendo fans may be rewarded for their patience with an all new 3D Mario game this October, according to executive-level retail representatives (via CVG). No details about the Mario game have come forth, but Gamespot has claimed that the game will be playable at E3 in June, along with a new Mario Kart game. The new Mario game was announced during a Nintendo Direct in January.

While sales of the Wii U have been sluggish for 2013 thus far, several titles are slated to come out for the system later this year which are sure to boost the system's lackluster lineup. With Pikmin 3, a new Super Smash Bros, a new Legend of Zelda, and a new Mario game, the potential for a quick turnaround for the system could be in place before the PlayStation 4 and next-gen Xbox appear on the market late in the year.

Shelly Pearce, the PR director at Nintendo UK had this to say about the upcoming titles for the Wii U:

"From July onwards we will launch a succession of Wii U titles and we will promote these extensively until the end of the year. Marketing activity will include TV, print, online and PR as well as comprehensive experiential and social media campaigns...We have a strong line up planned for Wii U in the second half of 2013 including the likes of Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Wii U.We are looking forward to launching these in the UK and for the opportunity to showcase the full potential of Wii U."
