Similar to the progress of the mobile operating system, Apple's next Mac OS is also under development ahead of their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
Known internally as "Cabernet," the Mac OS X 10.9 will reportedly focus on "power-user" enhancements and have some similarities to the iOS. Despite the improvements, OS X 10.9 will not be considered as an overhaul to Apple's desktop operating system brand.
According to sources, the upcoming operating system will include improvements to Finder, such as the introduction of tags and tabbed browsing modes. Safari will also see enhancements in the form of a redesigned backend when pages load.
As expected, the user-interface will see changes. While specifics on this matter were not largely elaborated, once again, don't expect a major redesign. Apple has reportedly been testing a new multi-tasking system similar to the quick-app-switch seen on their iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches and will run in the background.
As for a release date, a summer launch for the OS X 10.9 is likely if Apple follows the same pattern of previous operating system launches.
