The Samsung Galaxy S4 is finally available from T-Mobile today, at least online. Sales in T-Mobile's retail stores have been pushed back due to global shortages of the Galaxy S4.
Eager consumers can pick up a 16GB version of Samsung's flagship phone from T-Mobile for $149.99 upfront, with $20 monthly payments. That's a total price of $629.99, which can be paid off at any time without fees or interest. Once the balance is cleared, T-Mobile will unlock the phone for use on a different carrier, if you want.
While today's launch comes a full two days after the official U.S. debut of the Galaxy S4 in AT&T stores over the weekend, it's still two days before the launch date T-Mobile announced a month ago.
In-store sales now begin May 8 in larger markets, while smaller stores and cities will have to wait until May 15.
Of course, T-Mobile isn't the only company left in the lurch; Sprint stores won't have the Galaxy S4 in stock for the foreseeable future, and Verizon doesn't get the phone until May 30.
Despite using two different processors in different versions of the Galaxy S4 to stretch out its supply, Samsung is still in the middle of a component shortage, though not the one it anticipated. Though the company produces half of the world's supply of DRAM for use in smartphones and tablets, it has had to purchase extra parts from its main rival SK Hynix to meet the demand for Galaxy S4 devices. Samsung expects to ship 10 million of them in the first month alone.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
