The first three business months of 2013 saw Microsoft acquire 7.5 percent of the tablet market, and sales figures of their tablets have now been outlined.
According to research firm Strategy Analytics, tablets with the Windows 8 and Windows RT platforms accounted for three million tablets shipped, which also equates to 7.5 percent of the tablet market.
The market share for the Microsoft tablets are reported as "fair," but it is down significantly compared to tablets from Apple and Google.
Strategy Analytics accounts Apple's tablet share at 48.2 percent, which equals to 19.5 million units shipped. Devices using Google's Android platform placed second with 17.6 million units, or 43.4 percent of the market.
The Windows RT tablet could see further gains as Microsoft confirmed the Surface with Windows RT will launch in a few new countries between today and June.
As Surface General Manager Brian Hall stated, the Surface with Windows RT will launch today in Malaysia, in Mexico by the end of May, and Korea and Thailand by the end of June.
The Surface with Windows RT is already available in 29 markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
"The enthusiasm for Surface has been fantastic, and we love hearing the stories of people who are making it the one device they use to work and play," wrote Hall.
