It appears that the recently announced Batman: Arkham Origins will include some sort of multiplayer component, according to multiple sources speaking to Kotaku.
The sources claim that, in at least one section of multiplayer, the player plays as one member of either The Joker's or Bane's gang as you attempt to bring down Batman and Robin. Killer Croc, Deadshot, Firefly, Black Mask, Deathstroke, and "some kind of electroman character" will be available for this game mode. Each character will be customizable as well. It is unclear if there will be other multiplayer modes, including a potential co-op mode, at this time. Warner Bros has refused to comment on this news.
Batman: Arkham Origins is the third game in the Arkham series, and is the first game of the series made by WB Montreal, taking over for Rocksteady Games. The game takes place years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum, and features Batman being hunted by a team of eight assassins. It is unclear if the characters that are allegedly available for the game's multiplayer will be part of the story mode, or if the game will go with more iconic characters that already appeared in the series, such as The Penguin and Two-Face.Most likely, if the multiplayer mode for the game would feature a combination of story characters and other villains to add variety.
This would not be the first multiplayer Batman game available. Gotham City Imposters is a downloadable game released in 2011 which featured gangs styled after Batman and The Joker battling it out in 6 vs. 6 online multiplayer.
In addition to Arkham Origins, Warner Brothers has announced that a handheld game, Arkham Origins Blackgate, will be coming out as well. Batman: Arkham Origins will come out October 25 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.
