When THQ and Vigil games went bankrupt, the future of the Darksiders franchise was unclear. But now that the game has been bought by new publisher Nordic Games, who also picked up Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, Destroy All Humans, and more from the THQ bankruptcy sale, Darksiders 3 could potentially show up sometime, according to Nordic Games owner and CEO Lars Wingefors.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Wingefors mentioned that, while the company has no immediate plans to start work on Darksiders 3, they are contemplating how to go about creating the game, and deciding who would work on it.

"We are not a developer...We should not create a sequel. We need to find the best creative team to look into a sequel. We will look into various options to make sequels. In the last 24 hours we have been approached by people who seem to know that product very well. However, if those discussions lead anywhere, I don't know."

While this is not exactly a ringing endorsement for the franchise, keep in mind that Nordic Games has bought the rights to a franchise that, while mildly successful, failed to keep THQ afloat. Wingefors is merely being cautious about his new IP and wants to find the best way to make it successful. When asked about the possibility that Crytek USA, the recently formed company made up of many former Vigil Games employees making Darksiders 3, Wingefors was cautiously optimistic.

"Without saying we have been in contact with Crytek USA, I'd love to do something with them if we can find the right set-up...If they can prove they can make a worthwhile sequel, why shouldn't we talk? I have a great respect for those guys. They made very good games. But I'm sure they have a full agenda. Making games takes time."

We shall see what happens with Darksiders and all the rest of THQ's former franchises as time goes on.
