LG is now officially holding its "Share the Genius" event in New York City May 1, and it could finally be announcing the U.S. release of the LG Optimus G Pro.
Of course, the event could be about something totally unrelated, like an Android camera, a new television set, appliances, or any of the myriad markets and products LG has its fingers in.
But there's been no word so far of when the Optimus G Pro will hit American shored, despite good sales overseas and impressive reviews from nearly everyone who's handled one, so this would be the perfect time for LG to unveil it stateside.
If true, the Optimus G Pro would be wading into crowded waters, as the HTC One makes its American debut in just a few days, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 first appears just a week before this May 1 event.
But the Optimus G Pro does have one thing none of the other new phones do: size. The G Pro is a 5.5-inch beast, the same size as Samsung's Galaxy Note 2, but the Note 2 is seven months old and its specs aren't as nice.
The G Pro has hardware that nearly rivals the new Galaxy S4, but its screen is a full half-inch larger. Whether that will be enough to convince consumers to forgo Samsung's latest offering is still an open question.
The LG Optimus G Pro features a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch Full-HD 1920x1080 IPS display with 440 ppi, a 13-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video, 32GB of internal storage, an SD card slot for up to 64GB more, a huge 3000 mAh Li-Po battery and runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
