Fans of the Saints Row series may be pleased to know that a movie based on the wacky open-world series is possible, and it may even have a leg-up compared to some Hollywood adaptations of video games, thanks to it's new parent company.
When THQ went bankrupt, the rights to Saints Row was bought by developer Deep Silver. Deep Silver, in turn, is owned by Koch Media, a German-based company that is one of the premier film distribution and production companies in Europe. Furthermore, Koch Media chief executive officer Klemens Kundratitz has declared that the company is considering films for all the properties own by Koch Media, which includes Metro and Saints Row. Speaking to Venture Beat, Kundratitz states that, which nothing official has been started, there very well could be a Saints Row or Metro movie in the future.
"(Those movies are) not out of the question. If a company can deliver that transmedia experience, we are probably one of the few that have the ambition and ability to deliver that...At the same time, I have to be honest, we have not been able to deliver that (transmedia experience) yet...But it's one of my long-term strategic goals to do so."
Saints Row 4 was recently announced, and is expected to hit shelves in August. The latest game in the series adds even more variety and randomness to the series, as superpowers and aliens have been added to the game. New weaponry like a dubstep gun and the ability to throw enemies around with telekinesis bring the over-the-top series to even higher levels of ridiculousness.
It would be quite the sight to see the madness and chaos of the series brought to the big screen, and only time will tell if the Saints adventures actually do get made by Koch Media or any other company.
