Eager PlayStation 4 fans in the United Kingdom get a bit of good news today as the retail chain Asda has begun taking preorders for the PlayStation 4. All that is required is a deposit of £20. The retailer is cautioning that supplies may be limited, and only one PlayStation 4 can be preordered by a customer.
The retail chain, owned by Wal-mart, claims to be the first retail chain to offer preorders for the PlayStation 4, which seems valid considering the console has no official price point or release date yet, though it is expected to be out in the fall. Asda is quick to cover its bases in case the PlayStation 4 does not arrive on time.
"The current expected date of release made by Sony is Christmas 2013. Asda make no Guarantees that this is correct or will not change and Asda shall not be held responsible if Sony change or delay the release date of the Sony PlayStation 4 in the UK and or limit stock," the retailer states.
Asda also hints that customers may see more than one model of the PlayStation 4 when it arrives.
"If there is more than one version or bundle of the Sony PlayStation 4 at launch in Asda, we will give You a choice on which version You would like to buy."
Traditionally, Sony and other console markets have staggered console releases across regions so they are not overwhelmed by global demand. For example, the PlayStation 3 was released November 17, 2006 in the United States, but released on March 16, 2007 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and March 23 for most of the rest of Europe. One source, however, may have revealed that this may no longer be the case for the PlayStation 4. Soon American fans of the PlayStation 4 will hopefully be able to secure their own PlayStation 4's in the near future.
