The Samsung Galaxy S4 will hit the U.S. market by the end of the month, but there's still no word on exactly when Verizon will offer the new flagship smartphone.
But Verizon announced today that it's slashing the price of the Galaxy S3 to $99.99 with a two-year contract, presumably to clear out its stock before it starts offering the Galaxy S4.
It's a common tactic for retailers, and a good deal for consumers who don't need the latest and greatest phone. The new S4, when it actually comes out, will probably cost around $250 with a two-year contract, judging from pricing of other carriers.
Still, it shouldn't be long before Verizon announces an official release date. T-Mobile already announced it will offer the Galaxy S4 on May 1, and it looks like AT&T might have the phone even earlier than that.
Verizon tends to be more conservative with its releases and rarely struggles to be the first to bring a phone to market, but it won't want to miss out on much of the buying frenzy that will surely accompany the debut of the Galaxy S4, so expect it to be available from Verizon in early May.
The S3 was the first smartphone ever to outsell the iPhone, so carriers have high hopes that the S4 may be a repeat performer.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 features a 1.6GHz eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor or a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor (depending on country), 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1920x1080 Full HD AMOLED display at 441 ppi, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, internal storage between 16 and 64GB, an SD card slot that can accommodate an additional 64GB, a polycarbonate body, Smart Pause and floating touch tech and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
