Well over a month after the game's disastrous launch, EA has finally announced that "Cheetah Speed" will be making its way back into the game. Additionally, a new update will also be arriving soon.
The publisher revealed the news through the game's official Facebook page saying, "Yes, it's true -- we've recently brought back Cheetah Speed. We're also working on Update 2.0, so stay tuned for more info."
Cheetah Speed was originally cut from the game alongside a number of other features in an effort to free up some of the beleaguered servers. The game mode was one of the biggest contributors to the server instability, due to the fact that Maxis' always-on functionality requires SimCity to constantly update EA's servers whenever anything in the game changes. With so much going when Cheetah Speed was activated, the servers were not able handle to handle that amount of data, leading to a significant amount of downtime and instability.
Cheetah Speed made its return to the test servers at the end of March, but it's been almost two weeks before EA felt confident enough to reintroduce it to the general gaming population.
As for Update 2.0, it's been revealed that it will contain bug fixes, including ones for players who have reported lost save progress, "fire engine clumping," issues with the Recycling Center, Street Car efficiency, increased river water radius, and tweaks to Casinos to make them more profitable.
Lastly, a release date for the Mac version of SimCity has been officially unveiled. The game will be released on June 11 exclusively for Origin, with no current plans for a retail boxed version. Those who have already purchased it on the PC however will be given automatic access to the Mac version upon its release. Likewise, Mac players who purchase SimCity will be able to download the PC version for free as well.
Best of all, cross-platform play between the Mac and PC versions will be supported.
