Have an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S but really want an iPhone 5? Now a new trade-in program from T-Mobile will let you trade your old iPhone for a big discount on a new one.
Anyone can walk into T-Mobile without a phone and pick up an iPhone 5 on Apr. 12 for $99 upfront and $20 monthly payments for two years. But if you have a recent iPhone to trade in, the upfront payment drops to nothing.
In addition, if your hardware's in good condition, you could qualify for up to $120 in payment credits, which can be applied to those monthly payments.
That brings the total out-of-pocket price for an iPhone 5 to $580 over two years, and as little as $360 with a nice trade-in. You can pay off that balance ahead of time if you want and walk away from T-Mobile with an unlocked iPhone 5 to use anywhere else you want.
"Our message to iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 customers is simple: bring in your device and trade up to iPhone 5 on T-Mobile. We're making it incredibly attractive to buy an iPhone 5 by pairing an un-beatable upfront price and trade-in offer with Simple Choice, the most hassle-free and affordable rate plan in wireless," Mike Sievert, chief marketing officer for T-Mobile said in a press release.
For users looking to upgrade, this seems like a no-risk no-brainer. No other company will offer as much for an old iPhone, and there's no contract if you don't end up liking the service.
The Apple iPhone 5 features a 1.3GHz dual-core Apple A6 plus processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4-inch 1136x640 display at 326 ppi, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video, a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera with 720p HD video, up to 64GB of internal storage and runs Apple's proprietary iOS 6.1.3 operating system.
