The PlayStation Vita will be receiving a new update tomorrow that will enable several new features on the handheld device.

Updating to version 2.10 will add folders to the Vita's home screen, allowing users to group icons into folders of up to ten different apps and games. This means users will no longer have to search through several pages of cluttered icons looking for the one app or game they are looking for. Now users can customize folders and add whatever shortcuts they want into them.

Another big change that comes with the update is video playback. Now users will be able to play videos on the Vita's Internet browser, though Sony warns in the PlayStation Blog that not all videos will be able to work on the system. Group messaging will also become available, allowing users wishing to inform multiple people on their PlayStation Network friends list of the latest happenings can simply select them in the friends list and send the message from there.

Several smaller upgrades will also be added into the update. The email service has changed, allowing multiple email addresses in the same contact, and allowing HTML messages to be displayed. In addition, users will be able to search an email's body for information as well. Auto-mute will be enabled, as will zooming in on HD pictures. Finally, PlayStation Vita owners will be able to upload saved games from PlayStation Plus through a 3G network connection.

PlayStation Vita owners may be underwhelmed by the lack of flashy features that will be coming with the update, but the improvements and features offered will allow a smoother user experience overall. In particular, by enabling customized folders for the system, it reduces the amount of hassle users will have to deal with when browsing through the handheld. Vita owners should keep a close eye on their systems and download the update when it becomes available.
