One of the most frustrating experiences every gamer has gone through is running low on battery life while playing a game. While some consoles offer rechargeable batteries or controllers, users of the Nintendo Wii and Wii U have had to keep extra AA batteries around for their Wii Remotes, just in case of an emergency. Well, finally, Nintendo may be offering rechargeable battery packs for the Wii Remotes in the future, if a Nintendo customer survey posted by GoNintendo is to be believed.
The survey in question asks if users would be interested in a rechargeable battery pack, which would allow 13 hours of gameplay after only 90 minutes of charging. The survey also asks if users would be willing to spend $40 on the battery pack, if it was bundled together with a new strap and silicone cover for a Wii Remote. The survey does not offer a price point for what Nintendo may charge for a stand-alone battery pack.
This would certainly be a welcome addition to any Wii or Wii U user, as battery life while using the Wii Remote can vary wildly, depending on what other devices are plugged into the Wii Remote and what type of batteries a user puts into the controller. Now users will be able to buy one set of rechargeable batteries and charge them when they are not in use.
After six years, it is about time Nintendo adopts this strategy, as the Xbox 360 offers a similar setup available to users, and the PlayStation 3 controllers plug in to the console and charge themselves. While this is still in the "rumor" phase, if enough people respond positively to the survey, Nintendo may very well put out these rechargeable battery packs.
