Borderlands 2 fans can finally go past level 50 today, as the game's level cap gets raised 11 levels to level 61 in a brand new update.

In addition, a new game mode is available to players level 50 and above now, entitled Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode. This will be the third playthrough available for players, and should be the most difficult and rewarding yet. The update will also add a new rarity level for items, Pearlescent, which is the most powerful weapon class in the whole game.

This patch will be free to all those with the Season Pass for DLC, and $4.99 for everyone else.

The level increase is the first of a couple pieces of DLC that Gearbox has planned for Borderlands 2. A sixth playable character for the game, Krieg, will become available sometime in May. Krieg, however, will not be part of the game's Season Pass, and those wishing to buy the new character will have to pay $9.99 for the psycho-based class. The company also teased the final storyline DLC in the company's panel at PAX East last month, though when that will become available is unknown. Gearbox declared that all parts of the Season's Pass DLC will be available by the end of June.

With so much DLC becoming available for the game, Borderlands 2 fans will have plenty to do in the upcoming months. Upgrading old characters, starting new ones, and exploring new parts of Pandora (for the fourth time) should entertain and excite players old and new for the rest of spring.
