Until now, the Samsung Galaxy S3 was the largest smartphone slated for release by the mobile manufacturer, and with a display rumored to be 5.9 inches, it's plenty big.
But now it looks like Samsung is introducing a line of large phones to accompany the Galaxy Note, dubbed the Galaxy Mega line, and their purported specs cast some doubt on what we think we know about the Note 3.
"Mega" is an appropriate moniker. The GT-I9200 will be called the Galaxy Mega 6.3, with, yes, a 6.3-inch display. That was previously rumored to be the size of the display for the Note 3, though that was later debunked.
It also explains why the GamePad, a Samsung-branded game accessory for mobile phones, can accommodate screens up to 6.3 inches in size.
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 should be available sometime around the middle of June.
But the other phone in the Galaxy line is a bit confusing. The GT-I9152, or Galaxy Mega 5.8 has a 5.8-inch screen, smaller than the 5.9-inch screen the Note 3 is supposed to have.
Which begs the question, will the Note 3 have a screen smaller than the 5.9 inches we thought it would have? Why would Samsung call a phone "Mega" if it's smaller than one of its other brands?
Perhaps there will just be overlap between the screen sizes of the different brands. Or maybe the Note 3 is being absorbed into the Mega line, but that seems unlikely. It's also possible that these new numbers are all wrong, considering they come from the Samsung rumor site SamMobile.
The Mega 5.8 is due at the end of May or beginning of June, so hopefully we'll know more before then.
The Galaxy Note 3 is still a long way off and won't be released until later this year. But so far, rumors indicate it will have a 5.9-inch screen with an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera, a bigger battery and run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. An unconfirmed source says the Note 3 will debut in Berlin in September.
