The Samsung Galaxy S3 model GT-I9305 is one of the most popular smartphones to date, and it has recently gotten a new official Jelly Bean update from Samsung. Users have still not been able to get the latest Android version 4.2.2, but modders have found a way a way to update the phone via CyanogenMod 10.1 . Now S3 users can jump ahead to the version of Android that will come standard to the upcoming Galaxy S4 model.
By switching to the customized Android 4.2.2 mod, users will get a host of new features onto their Galaxy S3. Android 4.2.2 will allow gesture typing, improved Google Now, miracast display, and the photo sphere display.
Among these new features from CyanogenMod are Lockscreen Gestures shortcuts, Incognito mode for web browsing, DSP Equaliser, custom led control, a theme manager, Phone Goggles, and OpenVPN support. This custom mod also comes free of the bloatware carriers dump onto phones once they receive new firmwares.
Anyone interested in upgrading to Android 4.2.2 through CyanogenMod can find instructions to do so through the International Business Times. Otherwise, Samsung Galaxy S3 users shall have to wait until Samsung releases the update to the carriers who support the phone. Then users will have to wait until the carriers modify the firmware for their own personal preferences before the general public receives the update.
No word as to when an over-the-air update to Android 4.2.2 can be expected, as many phones are still switching to version 4.1.2. Anyone wishing to get their hands on the latest features and abilities of Android should strongly consider going through the lengthy upgrade process to test these features firsthand, but be warned that mods and unofficial softwares carry an inherent risk of bricking your smartphone.
