Previously, I reported that the Sony Xperia Z tablet will be available in the UK in April, but now the release date has been delayed until the end of May, according to Sony's official pre-order page.
Initially, the Xperia Z tablet was set to ship Apr. 12, but now tablets added to the cart say they're due to arrive May 28 or 29. There's no reason listed for the delay, but perhaps Sony was being too optimistic with its previous estimates.
If you want the Xperia Z tablet a bit earlier, Clove announced it will have the LTE-enabled version in stock May 20 for £499. That's the same price as from Sony's online store but over a week earlier. The LTE-equipped Xperia Z tablet comes with 16GB of storage.
A 16GB Wi-Fi-only version runs £399, while a 32GB Wi-Fi-only version is £449.
Since there's no listed reason for the delay, we can only speculate. But production delays have plagued the industry in recent months, due to component shortages, even in devices that don't share many of the same parts.
The HTC One has been delayed due to problems sourcing parts for its new UltraPixel cameras, and Samsung is using two different processors in its Galaxy S4 smartphone because of a supply shortage of its Enynos 5 Octa processor.
The Sony Xperia Z tablet is the world's thinnest and lightest Android tablet, weighing just 1.09 pounds and measuring just over a quarter inch thick. It features a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, a 10-inch 1900x1200 display, an 8-megapixel camera and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, though Sony has promised a quick upgrade to 4.2. It is waterproof down to a meter in depth for up to half an hour.
