Today Metal Gear Solid Creator Hideo Kojima and his staff demonstrated the Fox Engine and the developer's newest game, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes in a live stream at the Game Developers Conference. However, Kojima had a surprise up his sleeve, as it turns out Ground Zeroes and the mysterious Phantom Pain project he has also been working on together shall be Metal Gear Solid 5, and not two separate games as previously thought
Kojima, who was wearing bandages covering his face, first played a trailer featuring a musical montage of footage from a game, before formally announcing the pair of games (Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain) as Metal Gear Solid 5. He then introduced gameplay footage from Metal Gear Solid 5 running on a PC. Kojima promised that the game shall be an open-world game, and will be a prequel game featuring Naked Snake, A.K.A Big Boss
In the demo, Snake wakes up from a nine-year coma, only to find the hospital he is staying in attacked by unknown forces. He is helped by a man named Ismael, who is covered in bandages (just like Kojima) and attempts to get Snake out of the hospital while Snake struggles to move and crawl. Then, what appears to be some sort of cyborg causes a massive explosion, only for the thing to disappear once it is hit with water from the sprinkler system. The footage then ends with Snake and Ismael fleeing down a hallway as Snake finally gets to his feat.
The teaser trailer had some interesting and mysterious footage as well. While much of it involved Snake fleeing from the hospital, it also showed him getting assistance from unknown forces, as the assault continued from airborne enemies. The trailer ends with the statement "Fox vs. Xof."
Considering the Metal Gear series has dealt with cloning multiple times, could this be the beginning of the events that lead to Solid Snake's creation, and Naked Snake becoming Big Boss? Considering that this is a prequel to the events of the original Metal Gear Solid, that could be a possibility. We shall have to wait and see if Kojima reveals more information about the game soon.
