EA has officially confirmed that the fourth installment of the Battlefield series will be heading to consoles this fall. The game was announced, with a 17-minute video of gameplay showing the power of the Frostbite 3 engine that drives the game.
EA is promising players that for Battlefield 4 they will be incorporating some popular aspects of the multiplayer into the single player campaign. For example, players will be able to track their progress throughout the single player campaign. This will allow competition between friends and rivals as they go through the game, just like keeping stats for multiplayer. Gamers will also be able to use squad commands in single player mode as well. Rumor also has it that 64-player maps will also be part of the game, at least on the PlayStation 4.
It was also announced that EA will be offering players bonus content to those who preorder the game. Anyone who preorders the game will get a "premium expansion," though what this remains a mystery. PC players will get the chance through Origin to grab the exclusive Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition, which adds access to the multiplayer beta in addition to the expansion mentioned before.
While a release date for the game is still unknown, the rumored reveal of the game was indeed accurate. The announcement failed to reveal what consoles are getting the game, however, the preorder page for the game lists the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC as the destinations. In addition, it is expected that the game will come to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720, whenever they are released.
