T-Mobile is offering both the BlackBerry Z10 and the HTC One for $99 down.
Both those deals include a $20 monthly charge that is applied to the price of the phone, but with T-Mobile's new pricing scheme, there are no two-year contracts to sign.
Once the $99 initial charge and the monthly payments add up to the price of the phone, the customer is free to keep it on T-Mobile (without continuing to pay the $20 monthly charge) or take it to another carrier. T-Mobile will even unlock it for them.
Most major carriers offer deeply discounted phones but increase the price of the monthly plan to compensate, knowing that their customers are locked in for two years. And the price of the plan never goes down, even after the carrier has recouped the cost of the phone.
Even so, $99 is still far cheaper than the subsidized cost at other carriers, which usually charge $199 for the BlackBerry Z10 with a two-year contract. The HTC One is due to be released in late April, and it will likely cost the same amount.
The BlackBerry Z10 features a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 plus processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 4.2-inch 1280x768 display, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video, 16 GB of internal storage, an SD card slot and runs the newly revamped BlackBerry 10 operating system.
The HTC One features a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 1920x1080 pixel widescreen Super LCD 3 display, a 4 megapixel "Ultrapixel" camera with enhanced low-light sensitivity with 1080p HD video, up to 64 GB of internal storage and runs Android 4.1.2.
In addition, the iPhone 5 will be available on T-Mobile on Apr. 12, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 arrives May 1, though no prices have been released for those phones.
