XCOM fans have a lot to look forward to, with Firaxis teasing a new sequel or expansion at their PAX East panel.

The studio showed off a very brief trailer that began with a shot of The Council, along with that all too familiar message: "Hello Commander." The Council began to warn of a "new threat," before the signal suddenly went to static.

It's not much to go on, but it definitely seems like Firaxis is planning something big for XCOM. Most likely, it's a DLC addition (or maybe even a full expansion), especially given how many people are getting the game for free as part of the BioShock Infinite pre-order bundle.

It is likely we'll be hearing a lot more about the new content in the coming months, but for now, it's enough to know that Firaxis is actively developing more XCOM.

The series publisher, 2K Games, also announced that XCOM: Enemy Unknown would be heading to iDevices very soon. The upcoming App Store title will a full port of the original game, and aside from graphics and other visual effects, will be more or less the exact same experience.

2K mentioned in a subsequent interview that the biggest hurdle in porting the game was the filesize limitation, as the PC version requires around 20 GB of space. The publisher did not specify what visual elements were scaled down, although it's likely that features such as dynamic shadows, particles, and weapon effects have been adjusted or even removed entirely.

On the bright side, the iOS version will of course feature touch-powered controls that should feel very intuitive for mobile gamers.

The game was originally released last year to highly positive reviews. XCOM will be available for iPhones and iPads sometime this summer.
